Friday Five -Fine to Fantastic- Friday Finds

Good or fine or fantastic things from the week:

1. Good sub day on Monday- I was told to cover for a teacher during my teacher's plan but then didn't have to- I got to read instead. In all the years that I have been subbing, if I have been told that I need to cover for a teacher during my plan period, I have never been told that and then have it be rescinded. It was a treat to have an hour to myself when I had thought that I wouldn't have that hour to myself. Bonus that I had good book downloaded on my Kindle and had brought my Kindle to school so I got to read!

2. Picked up Alyssa when her first semester of college ended! Her last exam was over in the evening. Alyssa asked if I could get her the next day in the morning and then she asked if we could go from her dorm to do some shopping at nearby Easton shopping center. Easton is large- it is comprised of many shops and restaurants. Some of the stores are not ubiquitous to many shopping centers though they are chains- think Anthropologie, Aritizia and some are higher end- think Louis Voution, Tiffany, etc. Fortunately it was not the latter than interested Alyssa but the former! We had a good time shopping and Alyssa treated herself to some new duds, I treated her to some and I bought a couple of things for myself.

3. Speaking of picking up, I have been Alyssa's driver since she's been home and I am A-Ok with it. Alyssa does not like to drive my car at all (she says it's too big though it is not a big vehicle at all...) and Abby has the car that the two girls share at college with her. So until Abby comes home, I get to ferry Alyssa around. I don't mind it- I get to spend time with her in the car and it sort of reminds me of bygone days when she didn't have a license.  I am not in denial that she is grown up- I simply don't mind doing things for her especially when doing things for her enables me to spend more time with her.

I also forgot that she eschews my default lunch of scrambled eggs and cheese on a bagel and consequently, there was "nothing" that she could eat at the house for lunch. A quick drive to McDonald's solved the lunch problem 😀. 

4. This:

You gotta laugh or you gotta cry if you're one who has lots of thoughts about politics and certain figures in American politics. The Biden family and their antics- the vitriol so many spew regarding Trump. As I have often said, I wish that I didn't care as much as I do!

5. Speaking of politics, you also know that politics is never far from the forefront of your mind when you read a biography of a woman who escaped North Korea and came to America only to see some of the same groupthink she was subjected to in North Korea show up insidiously at Columbia University where she studied and you read the book and immediately order a copy for yourself to have and for each of your kids for Christmas!!

Bonus- We rarely have white Christmases but at least we've had a couple of white Christmas season days!
