Monthly Musings

Linking up with Holly and Patty for Monthly Musings

1. I don't meal plan, except for maybe a week or so in advance.

I think I have shared this before but here goes again- this is a chicken stuffed shell recipe. It's a little different than traditional stuffed shells though it has marinara sauce so it stays somewhat true to what you think of when you think of stuffed shells. The effort of boiling the noodles, cooking and shredding the chicken, making the stuffing mix and then stuffing each shell individually is laborious enough for you to feel good about yourself for going to such lengths for a nice comfort  meal... but not too laborious to the extent that the idea of making the dish is repugnant! At least that's how I analyze it :).

Here is the online version of the recipe: Chicken Parmesan Stuffed Pasta Shells

2. No real traditions except for taking pictures on the first day.

3. The girls like to shop at H&M, Forever 21, and PacSun. We bought Alyssa some college supplies at Wal-mart.

4. I rely more on the temperature outside than what season it is. I want to be comfortable and am not concerned if I am giving off some Pinterest worthy fall vibe or not!! So if it’s a hot day, I will wear the exact same clothes that would wear in the summer.

5. I have two very short trips planned before summer ends.

6. Schools here (and I think most of the Midwest) start before Labor Day. They did even back when I was in school.

7. We have some fun plans with friends and I think we are even going to see Alyssa for a little bit. I can't wait!

8. I typically wear my white jeans through September. They seem very summery to me so I wear them until the weather gets cool.

9. I don't generally go out of my way for pumpkin spice anything. I definitely associate pumpkins in general with fall so if I were going to consume something pumpkin-y, I think I would wait until fall. As of late August, I am not pining for pumpkin whatsoever!

10. No hacks to speak of except prayer, a listening ear (for when the kids come from school) and grace for a messier house as the detritus of school related things infiltrate the house!

Reading the question about wearing white after Labor Day reminded me of a pair of off white pants that I bought over the winter at a consignment shop (though they were brand new). I completely forgot about them! I don’t know what blouse I am wearing to church on Sunday but I think I know what slacks I am wearing :).

    1. Well, hack may not be the best word to describe prayer but you understand my sentiment :). Have fun celebrating this weekend- will be thinking of you!

  3. Alec wasn't supposed to be coming home this weekend but he's having major laptop issues so while I feel bad for him I'm kind of excited we'll get to see him. His first week of school was just a bit rocky but it sounds like he's settling in well. I hope you get to visit with Alyssa! I love that the questions jogged your memory and you now have a "new" pair of pants to wear.

    1. Thanks, Joanne! I got really excited when I realized I had those pants, lol. Sorry to hear that Alec´s first week was rocky- I think that is not too surprising for someone in his first week of college- things are bound to get better and I´m sure his laptop troubles made everything that much more frustrating. I hope you guys have a great visit!

  4. It's 95 degrees here so definitely feeling like summer, and I'm dressing for it too. I think if you live in a warm climate it's okay to wear white past Labor Day. I love a good pair of jeans so as soon as it truly cools off I'll be wearing those. Enjoy your fun weekend plans! It's my hubs birthday and we have friends coming for dinner on the actual day. If it stays in the 90's I'm sure we'll be in the water at some point too.

  7. Hooray for seeing Alyssa this weekend. I hope she is doing well here at the beginning of the year. Thanks for stoppping by my blog this morning and for the encouragement. I am trying hard to focus on my health and healthy choices...and not on the scale. It is a work in progress and a hard habit to change. I needed the reminder this morning. Hope you will be able to start running again soon....

    1. Thanks, Jennifer- Regarding running, I have not decided if I am going to take that up again even when I can. I am enjoying walking more than I expected to and I know that walking is easier on the joints and knees. So who knows- but thanks for thinking about me and running! And, yes, so looking forward to seeing Alyssa!

  9. I definitely need to remember the grace for a messier house -- both as things come home and as I don't have as much time to get things sorted.
