Weekending- still cold but getting better!!!

A lot of cold/ icky weather combined with a little being under the weather meant that we did not do much this weekend at all. I wish I could make it sound more exciting but I can’t (short of making up details which I obviously wouldn’t do!).

Friday we were off school due to getting snow Thursday night. We didn’t get much at all- three inches max but that is generally good enough for a school closure in our district and those around us. Indeed, our school day was canceled so Alyssa and I settled in to be home for the day. Donnie considered working from home but finds that generally he concentrates better in his office at work than at home. He would have worked from home had we gotten a lot more snow but he was not worried about the roads and reported that indeed, just as he thought, the roads were not that bad.

Alyssa and I watched a movie. Or I should say we started one. We got almost to the end before throwing in the towel. We knew where it was heading (the love interest, etc.) and realized we didn’t want to spend any more time watching it. 

Alyssa went sledding with her boyfriend. It was cold but she said that they had a good time. 

I made homemade pizza for dinner and Alyssa arrived home just as it was ready. We had a good meal together and then it was relaxing for the rest of the evening (relaxation was the theme of the weekend for sure!).

Saturday morning dawned cold and we got more snow overnight. It wasn’t that much but it covered the roads and our driveway that my neighbor had so thoughtfully shoveled for us on Friday (our neighbor who shoveled is 11 and I happily gave him some money for doing it!)

Jacob came home late Saturday morning to go to a University of Dayton basketball game with Donnie’s dad. UD is ranked in the top 25 in the country so that makes going to games a little more exciting. We got to catch up with him before the game and after. UD beat Rhode Island easily. Jacob came home and stayed through dinner (Chick- Fil-A carry out) before he left.

Sunday, Alyssa woke up not feeling well. A slight cold on Saturday she’d had worsened so we decided to stay home from church and watch the sermon on the couch. Later, Kroger came to delver our groceries. No, I’m not addled and could have gone to the store (to at least do a pick up!) but Kroger was offering delivery free of charge over the weekend if you spent a certain amount of money. 

The past two weekends I did Kroger pick up and then this weekend had groceries delivered. My favorite aspect of 2024 (so far! I’m hoping the years’ favorites overall don’t include the word “Kroger” at all…) may be my avoidance of going inside Kroger to grocery shop. I have no idea how much longer I’m going to do grocery pick up but I am enjoying it. 

Not being in a grocery store much reminds me of a story from years ago. When the kids were younger and our weekends and week nights were much busier than they are now, Donnie effectively did not go to the grocery store. I did all of the grocery shopping and generally did this during the week because I only worked a day or two at most. We did so much running around with the kids and combined with Donnie working a lot meant that the grocery store was not something that he went into. A few years ago, when Jacob had his drivers license and our courier days were lessened, Donnie went to Kroger and came home with fantastical tales of products sold there.  Various flavors of products, new products, etc. Except those products were not new, just to him. I saw them in the grocery store every week! I have a feeling that I may be like that if I stay out of the grocery store much longer!!

Anyway, speaking of Donnie, he got together with a friend in the afternoon. I did some organizing, online shopping (just starting to look at new furniture for Jacob’s room the guest room), and made Alyssa and me quiche and hashbrowns for dinner. 

It was a good, quiet weekend but I am ready for some home projects and getting out more!

I started wrapping presents for Alyssa’s birthday and started to put out some Valentine’s Day decor

The cabinet at Cafe Rineer still had some Christmas containers in it and I had lots of coffee cups/ pod things to decant. 

Had to document our first Kroger delivery, lol.

Not all weekends can consist of being near the Eiffel Tower... Some of them don’t get more exciting than Kroger delivery!!
