Busy bees

The month of May will likely be the busiest month of 2021 (obviously can’t say for certain since we will still have seven months left in the year). But, as for right now, we are about as busy as I’d like to be. I am not sorry about it but am looking forward to more relaxed days when school is out for the summer.

Last week, I worked every day except for one (and was supposed to work that one- I had to call off a few days before to be home for a contractor to come). On my day off, I worked on graduation party details. Fun but stressful to think about/ plan. A lot of the details are out of my control and that is stressful to me :). In addition to working a lot, we had somewhere to go almost every afternoon/ evening last week. 

Alyssa had her last track meet last week. The meet was districts and not all varsity runners were chosen to run it so it was an honor to get to run in it.  Alas/ hurray, her event didn’t move on to regionals. Track season was a mixed bag for sure. The meets were SO LONG (only because Alyssa ran the very last event in all but one meet. Runners had to be at the meet in the very beginning but could leave when their event was finished. That didn't help at all when your event was the last one).  The long meets had both Alyssa and me not be super sad to see the season end. Moving on would have been nice in the competitive spirit of athletic endeavors kind of way. But in a pragmatic way, we were both completely fine with the season ending because it mean an end to those five to eight hour meets.

The weekend was a combination of being busy but getting some relaxing in, too. A hair appointment, normal weekend errands (“normal” weekend errands are now more extensive since I’m working more and push more errands to the weekends), a home project, household chores, and celebrating our 22nd anniversary were on tap for us. 

The district meet last week was at Bellbrook High School- about a 25 minute drive from our house. This was the only meet of the season where I dropped Alyssa off and then came back to watch her run her event. It was strange to leave her at Bellbrook (though if her school had provided busing to meets (as every other school in our conference did), I wouldn’t have come until closer to her event so I’m not sure exactly why I found it so strange)). Once home, we were able to know how the meet was progressing (to know when to drive back to Bellbrook) because the results of each event are posted as soon as they are finished.

...until we had new cabinet doors installed. 

Saturday was our anniversary. The timing worked out really well to pick up my new wedding bands from a local jeweler. The bands were an impulse purchase (though they were something I had been wanting...) we made when visiting one of Donnie’s client’s business- a jewelry store last month for an open house. I received a call last week that the bands were in so on Saturday we went to pick them up. The weather was perfect to drive with the top down into Centerville. After picking up my rings, we went to one of our favorite Mexican restaurants for dinner. I took this picture to send to my sister to show her the rings. Then I noticed the dirt underneath my fingernails. Oops, so much gardening earlier, not enough scrubbing under my nails.

In my garden, I spied with my little eyes (and dirty fingernails...) many unripe strawberries. I spent an inordinate amount of time weeding and about an equal amount of time admiring the strawberry plants and dreaming of the upcoming days when I would see red berries instead of these white, unripe ones.
