GWOC Cross Country Championchip

 Ayssa's cross country team had its conference championship meet on Saturday. It was held at Northmont High School which is just north of Dayton. The season came round circle- the very first meet of the season was at Northmont High School in late August. In mid- late October the regular season was coming to a close at Northmont. 

The girls varsity race wasn't until 11:45 am. That late morning time meant that no one had to get up at the crack of dawn and Alyssa avoided running in freezing temperatures. Friday night and into Saturday, we had our first frost of the season. Friday evening, I turned on the heat for the first time this fall knowing how cold it was supposed to get. Indeed, Saturday morning was quite chilly but when the sun came up, it stayed out and warmed the day up quite a bit. By race time, it was about 55 degrees- not too shabby for a quick (hopefully!) 5K.

Alyssa didn't end up PR'ng. It was the first meet of the season that she didn't PR. But her time was still good. She was about ten seconds slower than last week's meet which had been a PR by more than ten seconds- in other words, Saturday was her second to best time. She came in fourth place among the Springboro runners and was in the top twenty out of over 120 runners. 

Alyssa ran this meet around 3 1/2 minutes faster than the first meet of the season, the one that was at Northmont. Her improvement has been fun and fairly unexpected to see. It wasn't surprising to me that she got better but how much she got better did surprise me. Alyssa came in 19th out of all of the Springboro runners in the first meet at Northmont and this past weekend at Northmont, she came in fourth. Proud of her for always working hard to improve!

Alyssa has made some good friends in cross country this season. After the meet, she asked if two of her cross country friends could have a sleepover that evening.  Of course they could! I´m grateful that she´s made good friends and memories this cross country season.
