Easter Weekend
Friday was the kids' first day of spring break. It was also Good Friday. Friday was definitely good from an eternal perspective; Jesus' willingness to bear the punishment for our sins gives us eternal life. From an earthly perspective, Friday was just ok. Friday morning, I had to run an errand for my car (all for naught as it unfortunately turned out). I drove over an hour round trip all in pouring rain. When I came home, the kids were not in the best of moods. I thought they'd be in much better moods since they didn't have school and had a week ahead of them with no school. The day perked up when Donnie arrived home from work.
Saturday was a perfectly fine day. No soccer, no dance- for now Easter weekend is sacrosanct with regard to kids' activities. We ran errands and got a few things done around the house. I picked up my birthday present (from Donnie to me)- a 50 mm prime lens for my Nikon. I'd been wanting a prime lens for a while and I had time on Saturday to go to our local camera shop and test out one. I loved it so I went ahead and bought it (and then informed Donnie that he'd/ I'd purchased my birthday present :))
Late Saturday afternoon, I asked Alyssa if she wanted to go with me to E. Milo Beck park and take pictures with my new lens down by the creek. Both Abby and Alyssa are really getting into photography which I want to encourage. Abby wants a good camera- I'll probably look for a decent used one for her rather than shell out the big bucks for a new one. Alyssa is happy to take pictures with my camera and with her little Insta print camera.
We had a good time at the creek, per usual. We'd had a lot of rain in the past week and the creek water was at a high level. Alyssa had been to the creek just one week prior with Donnie. She needed to get a sample of creek or pond water for science class. Alyssa couldn't believe how much higher the water had gotten in just a week. I was not surprised (although I hadn't seen the water the week before) because we had rain for about 36 hours straight recently- I know enough about creeks to know that kind of rain will result in high water. The afternoon was cool, overcast and our visit to the creek was cut short when it started to rain.
Some of the pictures that we took turned out really good- some not so good. I'm still learning about the lens and the settings on my camera.
Sunday- Easter! We had to go to the early service at church. It started at 9:30. No one was super happy to have to go to the early service but Jacob had to work in the early afternoon. So, we didn't have much of a choice. We didn't have time to give the kids their baskets before church. We had time for one or two pictures and that was it. The church service was great and after that we headed to lunch at Chuy's with Bev. We got to Chuy's right when they opened, 11:00am, had a yummy lunch and headed home. We were home close to noon and had the rest of the day to relax (except for Jacob who went to work). We relaxed for most of the remainder of the day. The girls and I were leaving the next day for a short spring break trip so we packed and prepared for that.
Alyssa at the creek- there are no signs indicating the creek's name so I looked it up on a map when we arrived home. It's called Clear Creek. I wouldn't call it clear but I would definitely called it a creek- I guess one out of two isn't bad :). There are numerous names in the area derivative of Clear Creek. There's Clearcreek Elementary nearby (that all the kids attended for KG and 1st grade) and Clearcreek Township.
The next two pictures are of identical scenery- I just changed the shutter speed of the camera so the lighting is different.
Talk about no zoom lens- Alyssa's instant print camera is fun but it doesn't really take good pictures. But, it's increased Alyssa's interest in photography so there's that.
I don't hang out around many creeks so I don't have much to compare our creek to, but I think the rocks found at our creek are incredible. I could rock gaze all day. I loved how this one is shaped like a heart.

Easter Sunday-
