Soccer Saturday, a spin class fundraiser for show choir, and sesame seeds
Saturday, Alyssa had an 8:00 am soccer game and Jacob had a 7:10 pm one- both were indoor at the same facility in Mason.
I woke up bright and early (by chance not choice) so I got a five mile run in before we left our house around 7:15 am for Alyssa's game. Alyssa's team WON! This is the first game out of four in their indoor league that they've won. All of their losses were close; it's not like they're getting killed in this league. But, until Saturday, they'd been on the losing end of each match. They played the same team that had beaten them 2-0 two weeks ago. In this match up, the girls emerged the victors with a score of 2-1.
Much later, Jacob's team would play on the same field that Alyssa's team on. Jacob's team won 4-3. It was a good game- Jacob's team was down 0-2 but rallied to win. Jacob scored his team's second goal :).
Nothing else remarkable happened on Saturday. Besides the soccer games, it was a normal Saturday of getting errands done and the kids relaxing/ enjoying being off of school. I had an annoying head cold and with waking up early the past two days, I ended the day early.
Sunday was a little unusual. Alyssa had a practice for her 3 v. 3 soccer team in the morning. I was not thrilled that her team was practicing on Sunday morning but that was only time that the girls could get turf time. I hate to miss church- especially in February- one month before the craziness of outdoor spring soccer starts and we miss church a lot. Donnie took Alyssa to her practice. I could have taken the teens to church but, that didn't sound like an enjoyable activity. Like moving a mattress, which one can do by oneself, it's much easier if there are two people to move the mattress. That's how I feel about going to church by myself with the teens- it's possible to do by oneself (and I've done it numerous times) but much preferable when we all attend church as a family. The good news is that we can, and mostly likely, will, watch the sermon when it becomes available to view online. Knowing we can watch the service makes missing church much more tenable.
In the early afternoon, Abby and I did a spin class at CycleBar in Austin Landing. It was a fundraiser for the Springboro Show Choir. One of Abby's dance friends is in the show choir and her mom sent me info about the fundraiser in an email. I thought it sounded different and interesting. I was glad that Abby said she'd do the class with me. I thought it was a pretty good work out. It was a 45 minute class and I felt like I worked hard for most of that time. There was a competition element to it that was both inspiring yet stressful (first names were displayed in order on a TV screen- yikes!). I finished in the top 5 (ok, 5th!) out of 28. Not too bad...
I think I'll stick to outdoor running as my default form of exercise- it's cheaper, quicker (since I'm not driving anywhere to do it), and I actually get to go someplace. I'm glad that I tried the spin class and that I helped the Springboro Show Choir in the process. Abby really liked it and is interested in take some spin classes there.
After the class, Abby and I went to Dorothy Lane Market. We were sweaty and a little worse for the wear but didn't figure we were too offensive in sight or smell. We walked around and found ourselves in the "healthy" ish area of the store. We found some essential oils, essential oil accouterments and all sorts of incredible smelling candles. The next aisle over had a serve yourself bulk nut/ healthy things like flax seed, granola, etc. I wondered whether or not they sold sesame seeds and sure enough they did.
Sesame seeds had been on my mind because Alyssa has been eating a ton of them on her bagels when I make homemade bagels. I put sesame seeds on top of the bagel dough before I bake them. Then, I after I bake them and cut a bagel for Alyssa, she adds cream cheese to both bagel pieces. On the bottom bagel piece, she adds sesame seeds on top of the cream cheese (so both the top and bottom pieces of her bagel have sesame seeds on them). I wondered if sesame seeds were healthy so I looked up information about them. You betcha, they are healthy. Like super, duper, really healthy (I can't recall the specifics but they are healthy). After I realized how healthy they were, I looked into ordering some seeds in bulk online.
I didn't end up ordering any online, but when I saw that I could buy sesame seeds in bulk at DLM, I didn't bulk (sorry!) and bought some. Regarding the price, all I saw was $3.49 and no unit. I thought there was as good a chance that they were $3.49 per ounce or per pound. This is DLM we're talking about- home of the $3.00 sugar cookie (of which Jacob and I bought two of on Saturday) and the $9.00/ lb guacamole (of which I bought an large container of on Sunday). I was happy to find out that the sesame seeds were $3.49 a pound. I bought a small amount as I still had some at home in a jar. Not in bulk, sesame seeds are sold in grocery stores with spices and sell for about $3.00 to $4.00 for an ounce. I'm glad to know I can buy them in bulk- I will continue to do so.
Here are some pictures from the weekend:
Soccer Saturday- I'm working on taking pictures with the best camera settings. I don't want to use flash indoors but the lighting inside W2W is not good for picture taking. So my camera settings are a little wonky.
The picture quality is much better here- too bad it's of Alyssa from the back and the ball is nowhere to be seen....
She looks like she could be in a soccer game here... or modeling some sports wear!!!
Oh, she's in a soccer game. Well, here, she was not in the game. She was subbed out here, standing next to her coach. This coach is not her regular coach- her regular soccer coach couldn't attend.
Protecting the goal from a corner kick...
Sesame seeds! The seeds in the plastic bag are the ones I bought from DLM. I'll add those to the container of sesame seeds that are almost gone.
Helping show choir out, getting exercise in, and Abby and I have official "Cyclebar" water bottles :)
