Snow Day
The kids didn't have school on Wednesday because of snow. School was canceled for Wednesday on Tuesday evening before any snowflakes descended onto roads. The winter weather advisory for Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning was enough for school to be canceled.
We did get snow overnight- our area probably got four inches. Roads were treacherous- based on the newspaper that I read online which mentioned numerous accidents in the morning. And Wednesday was practically perfect- not because anything spectacular happened but because school didn't happen.
Since we knew school was canceled ahead of time, the kids knew they could sleep in which means they did not go to bed at their normal times Tuesday evening. In fact, Jacob went out with a friend to Bill's Donuts in Centerville Tuesday evening. The girls stayed up late in Alyssa's room playing Minecraft.
I was especially glad to know that school was canceled because Alyssa's throat had started hurting during the school day on Tuesday. She didn't have a fever or feel run down but her sore throat caused her a lot of discomfort. I was glad to know that she would be home on Wednesday so that she didn't have to worry about being in school with her sore throat and if she developed a fever or started feeling worse- she would be home with me.
Wednesday entailed sleeping in (the teens quite a bit more so than Alyssa- Alyssa hasn't acquired the seemingly preternatural teen need for copious hours of sleep at night), making homemade bagels, shoveling, playing, PS4ing and other non exciting yet 100% preferable to being at school activities.
One exciting thing (for me more than anyone else, although the girls got something out of it...) was that I received new mascara in the mail!! Now, the significance of that is that I am so basic when it comes time to make up that normally, the mascara brand that I buy is whatever is on sale at Kroger when I need new mascara. To order mascara means that it must be higher quality than drug store mascara, right? I sure hope so!! I've noticed recently that my eyelashes are become sparse- I guess another harbinger of older age (et tu, eyelashes?). I read some great online reviews of a particular Lancôme mascara so I decided to order the mascara in attempt to ameliorate the paucity of my eyelashes.
I went to Nordstrom's website to order the mascara because I know that Nordstrom's has free shipping no matter how much you spend. On the website, I noticed a "deal" whereby for about twice the amount of money of the mascara that I wanted to buy, I could get the mascara and numerous other full size products including two make up bags. I'm such a sucker for a deal and I did want/ need a new make up bag. And, the products looked intriguing. So, I decided to get the "deal." Anyway, my box(es!) arrived Wednesday from Nordstrom. The girls and I enjoyed looking at the items in the big box. When Abby was at dance, Alyssa let me put some of the new make up that was in the bag on her. She looked amazing with the make up on her- also much older. I took some pictures of her but I don't think she'd want them posted. When she's ready to wear make up (in five years, lol), she can post pictures of herself with it :).

Despite Alyssa's throat still hurting Wednesday when she woke up, Alyssa wanted to eat homemade bagels (she does not consume store bought bagels). I had already eaten my breakfast (which consists in part of a store bought bagel) but I figured that she and Abby could polish these four off (Jacob does not consume bagels of any kind- store bought or homemade). Alyssa ended up eating three out of the four...
In an effort to drink less pop but not to forgo caffeine, I've decided to start drinking tea. Abby said she wanted to try tea so on Wednesday I made both of us a cup of green tea. I added honey to both of ours to sweeten it. I liked it quite a bit- Abby said hers was OK. I loved using this mug despite its holidayishness. So pretty!
If you've ever wondered whether using Triple Chip morsels AND chocolate chunk morsels in cookies is a good idea or not, I'm happy to report our findings...

When the UPS delivered my Nordstrom packages, I was worried that I'd accidentally ordered two sets of the "deal." The boxes were huge. Including my foot in the below picture to show the scale of the boxes...

Oh la la!! The back of the box. I felt tres sophisticate!!!
Here was big make up bag. It was way bigger than I thought it would be.
The other bag is a tad smaller than I was hoping. I was hoping for a size bag somewhere in between these two.
The contents of the big bag
I decided to use the big bag for Abby and some of her dance stuff. Abby has a humongous dance bag. It holds all of her costumes, shoes, make up, hair items and it rolls and turns into a luggage rack. It has tons of pockets into which I place her hair products. But, I have to dig for them. If I place all of her hair products in here, it would be convenient to have them all easily accessible.
So, I put a number of her items in the new bag.
Here is the bag with her hair items in it inside her dance bag. I think this will work out nicely...
As for the mascara, well, I put some of it on Alyssa, and her eyelashes looked AMAZING. But then, she has nice, long, full lashes. I put it on me and well, not so much. It's not a miracle worker. Oh well, I got a big bag out of it and some other products. I guess Kroger mascara is in my future since the Lancôme one is not a miracle product for me :).
