Late Soccer Games and Bad Photos + busy Sunday

A couple of weekends ago Jacob and Alyssa's soccer teams had early soccer games. This weekend they both had late games. Alyssa's soccer team played at Wall2Wall in Mason at 8:50 pm on Saturday evening. Jacob's team played at GameTime in Fairfield at 9:10 pm on Sunday evening.

Alyssa's team is playing in a boy's league and are undefeated. Her team played a team on Saturday whom they'd not played before. This team had done pretty well prior to meeting Alyssa's team. The boys probably thought they had the cat in the bag when in the first 45 seconds of play against Alyssa's team, they scored a goal. It was a quick, unexpected goal; our girls normally don't give up goals that easily. Alyssa's team proceeded to dominate and rather easily beat the boys 4-1. We arrived home from Alyssa's game around 10:30 pm. Ach!! That's past my normal bedtime since I'm virtually incapable of sleeping in (see sentence below).

Sunday morning, I work up bright and early- before 6:00 am. I'd been thinking about getting a long(ish) run sometime in the near future. The time and temperature were right Sunday morning (the temp was 59 degrees when I checked it at 6:00 am- it actually decreased during my run but my entire run in shorts and a tee shirt was comfortable). Was great to get a longer run than usual in no matter how slowly said run occurred :).

After church (church!- two weekends in a row), we didn't have much time before Alyssa had gymnastics and Abby had an hour and a half dance practice. Donnie dropped Abby off at dance on the way to taking Alyssa to gymnastics (Springboro, the town where everything is close by (thankfully)) then the two of them (Alyssa and Donnie) went to Wal-mart to get some supplies Donnie needed for Operation Get Rid of Cable TV. That some "supplies" included two new 60 inch TV's we'll let slide :). Donnie didn't actually get the TV's at Walmart. Rather, he and Jacob made a run to Best Buy later to try to get them. Anyway, shortly after Donnie dropped Abby off at dance, I headed up to dance and spent the next hour + rhinestoning one of Abby's dance costumes for her upcoming competition and then Abby and I went home.

We all arrived home by dinnertime. Shortly after dinner, the girls and I began baking and decorating Valentine's Day sugar cookies. Alyssa and I had made the sugar cookie dough Sunday morning before church and while Abby was still at her friend's house for the sleep over she'd had the evening before. Jacob declined to join us in the cookie rolling out/ baking/ decorating due to his upcoming soccer game. He didn't want to have a belly full of sugar cookie dough ((trying) to surreptitiously take bites of cookie dough is pretty much the only reason the kids like to help roll out sugar cookie dough) and cookies before his game.

After the girls and I finished decorating cookies and we all harmoniously cleaned up the flour/ dough filled kitchen I spent at least an hour cleaning up the kitchen, it was time to leave for Jacob's soccer game. Just Jacob and I went to his game. Donnie didn't want to leave the girls by themselves that late plus the girls needed to get to bed before Jacob and I would be home from soccer. 'Twas a  long drive to Fairfield complete with  stressed filled moments when I realized I was most likely going to run out of gas* on the way to soccer and had to take an exit off the highway that didn't even indicate that a gas station was nearby but that I prayed mightily had a station close by. Thankfully, there was a gas station close by. I put in a few gallons (did I mention that Jacob and I left later than we had wanted to due to Jacob's laundry with his soccer clothes not being complete until much later than it should have been**) and then may have broken the speed limit a teensy bit (I do not normally have a lead foot. I'm pretty good about leaving for a destination within plenty of time such that speeding is not necessary. And if speeding is not necessary than I don't do it) to get Jacob to his soccer game on time.

And what about Jacob's soccer game?  Wellll, Jacob's team lost but it was not without its flavorful moments. His team's lowlights included only scoring one goal and having one player get a yellow card. Jacob was the kid on his team who scored his team's one goal and who got the yellow card. It was quite a game... His goal was actually really nice. Jacob was playing defense when he scored it. Jacob got possession of the ball and then being nowhere near the goal, he drilled the ball and it went straight into the goal. It didn't impact the outcome of the game but his team didn't get shut out because of it. And, yes, the kid scored on his PK from Jacob fouling him in the box (and for which Jacob got the yellow card) but that didn't impact the outcome of the game either. Jacob and I arrived home around 10:45 pm. It had been a good, busy day but I was ready for it to be done!!

*I normally don't let my gas tank get to the point of needing to emergently exit a highway for gas. I planned on getting gas Monday morning. I knew I'd need it by then. What I hadn't foreseen was Donnie taking two trips with my car on Sunday in his quest for acquiring new TV's.

** Jacob did his own laundry on Sunday and he started it too late vis a vis having it done in time for his soccer game.

Here a are a few pictures from the weekend. Note that I didn't think I could take worse pictures than I did of the previous soccer games, but I managed to do just that. My camera setting was not on Auto for Alyssa's game and that's why the pictures were so bad.

Valentine cookie time-  love these larger than normal and conversation M & M's

I don't know how flour managed to get everywhere in the kitchen instead of being contained here, but it did.

I halved a recipe for butter cream icing and it was the perfect amount (and it tasted pretty much perfect, too).

The cookies that Alyssa decorated... the half eaten one is there because Alyssa took one bite of the cookie and declared that she didn't like sugar cookies (but she loved eating the dough). Alyssa is an equal opportunity fussy food eater. She doesn't like a lot of healthy food but she's also picky about her junk food. So, consistency.

Jacob's game... Jacob is number 3

I missed capturing Jacob's goal with my iPhone but here he is walking back to his position (defense!) after he scored.

He's looking over his shoulder here after his goal. I was hoping to catch a smile (not that you could really see it with this cruddy iPhone picture).

Another throw in...

Just about over... so thankful that Jacob scored. It helped to ease the pain of losing.
