Summer break week 10
All good things must come to an end and that includes summer breaks. Last week was the final full week of summer break. School starts Thursday of this week so it's not like last week was completely it, but it marked the end of complete weeks. It was a busy week...
Monday- Jacob had soccer try outs in the am and pm. Unfortunately, the back pain he's been experiencing him impacted his ability to try out. He participated in the am try out but his back hurt too much for the pm try out. He went to the pm session but didn't patriciate. To say it was disappointing is an understatement. He did SO MUCH to prepare for try outs but his back pain appeared to derail him. The girls played together all day. I did boring but necessary things like laundry, cleaning and only ran one errand. That was good because Tuesday would be all about running around....
Tuesday- I ran (literally ran, as in exercise) early in the morning because I knew I would be gone most of the evening. After my run and while the kids were still sleeping, I made some brownies for later in the evening. Jacob went to his two soccer try out sessions but didn't patriciate :(. I took the girls to Wal-Mart to get their school supplies. I was hoping to wait until the tax free weekend to buy their supplies. However, Abby had a walk through at her school on Thursday (the day before the tax free weekend) and wanted to have her supplies by then so she wouldn't have to bring all her supplies on the first day of school. When we arrived home from Wal-Mart, I made a veggie dip for later that evening. In the early afternoon, I took Jacob to see the high school trainer. The trainer taped Jacob and suggested we get X-Rays of his back. We came home, I cut up veggies and then took Alyssa to soccer in West Chester. From soccer, Alyssa and I straight to Miamisburg to Uncle Doug's house (where the rest of the family already was). He hosted a cook out at his house- some out of town family members had come to town. It was great to get together- Doug knocked the cook out out of the park:). It was nice to see family members that we don't get to see often.
Wednesday- This was a nice low key day at home. I was very glad for it. I got things done around the house. Thursday would be busier than Tuesday so to have a quiet day at home was much appreciated. The girls were home all day but didn't play together for whatever reason. Jacob hung out with Malcolm for a good part of the day.
Thursday- Oh what a busy day! It started off with taking Jacob to Beacon in Cincinnati to get his back X-rayed. We met with a doctor who referred us to a chiropractor on site so we ended up being at Beacon for two hours. The good news was that there's nothing "mechanical" wrong with Jacob's back. We arrived home and I had about half an hour before taking Abby to the walk through at the junior high. She received her class schedule, locker number and locker combination. Unfortunately, her locker combination was not correct and so she didn't get to put her items away. We had to go back to the school this week (so we could have waited to buy her supplies during the tax free weekend :)). Shortly after arriving home from the junior high, Alyssa and I left the house for Alyssa's soccer training in West Chester. Immediately after soccer, a group of Alyssa's soccer teammates, including Alyssa, went to Kings Island. It was fun and all; we stayed until the very end and then had a long drive home as our direct route home wasn't possible because of construction. I was gone from the house from about 11:00 am to 11:00 pm with just a short time in between those hours at home.
Friday- the girls and I went to The Greene to do some shopping during the tax free weekend. Clothing items up to $75.00 and school supplies were tax free. We went to Norstrom Rack, Justice, Francesca's and had lunch at Cheesecake Factory. Our lunch at Cheesecake negated any savings we made by not paying taxes but at least we had a good lunch :).
Here are some pictures from the week:
Tuesday- Brownies (with Heath toffee bits and chocolate chips on top)
Black bean dip- I could eat this all day!!
Alyssa's lunch on Tueday- I wasn't planning on taking a picture of it but my camera was nearby and I thought how colorful and pretty the food items were. Don't worry about the lack of carbs; Alyssa snacks on carbs constantly. I was just happy she'd eat hard boiled eggs as a protein source.
Tueday evening at Uncle Doug's- it won't go down as the best family picture we've ever taken (Jacob's position makes him look like he's a much larger specimen than the rest of us. Alyssa's shirt billowing out gives her the appearance of being overweight when she isn't) but it's been a long time since we've had one taken of us all together so I'm including it.
Kings Island on Thursday after soccer- Alyssa rode in Ainsley's car over to the park and we met up by Banshee. I'd never walked into the park by myself. I took the opportunity to take a picture of the iconic entrance at Kings Island
Alyssa and Ainsley on Windseeker. The girls rode this one right at closing time- 10:00 pm which was also when the fireworks started. The girls were in a great position to see the fireworks. The fireworks went on while the girls were on Windseeker.
The colors of Windseeker change. It was so pretty to watch the ride. I love the ride but none of the parents were going on rides so I just took pictures (which I also enjoy!!).
The cars of the Windseeker are high in the air, shown in the upper left hand corner of this photo
What comes up...
... must come down!!
Friday- Tax Free Day!

At Nordstrom Rack...
Alyssa just ditched the high heels in the aisle and is running away from me!!
The girls do like their shoes...
At Cheesecake Factory
My salad...
...my pizza
Dessert for later! We got cheesecake to go (well, actually, I just got the kids cheesecake. I forewent the pleasure of getting a piece of cheesecake for myself in an act of extreme discipline. I texted Donnie to see if he wanted me to pick him up a piece but he declined).
