Talent Contest at Fraze Pavillion
Abby competed in the Miami Valley Youth Competition finals at Fraze Pavilion in late July. This was the talent competition/ contest where she had to place in the top four to move on to the Fraze. In the finals at Fraze Pavilion competition, she was competing against others in her age group, not against the older kids.
The day of the competition was a crazy, busy one. It would have been great to cap off the evening with a win... sadly that was not to be. Alyssa had soccer camp in West Chester the morning of the competition. Alyssa and I arrived home close to 11:30. I needed to leave with Abby at about 12:15 to go to a dress rehearsal at Fraze. That meant getting the kids lunch in a hurry andbarking some orders calmly explaining my expectations to Jacob about the afternoon in which he'd have to watch Alyssa and get himself ready for his soccer camp later that evening.
We drove to Fraze for the dress rehearsal with Arianna, who'd also advanced to the finals, and her mom Kim. The girls were very impressed with the venue when we arrived. The stage is huge and the grounds are so pretty. Clouds overheard not just threatened rain but delivered it several times during the long afternoon of the rehearsal. When we arrived home (after a slow drive in pouring rain), we only had about half an hour before I took Jacob to the parking lot of Dorothy Lane Market where he was catching a ride to his soccer camp in Huber Heights. From DLM, Abby and I headed back to Fraze for the talent show. Alyssa stayed at a friend's house until Donnie arrived home to get Alyssa and then head up to the Fraze for the 7:00 show.
Abby performed so great! Many of the performers did a great job and everyone was talented. Certainly judging would be difficult... unfortunately, for the dancers, the musicians were heavily favored by the judges. Musicians ended up winning five out of six awards. We felt like all the dancers, including Abby, were denied an opportunity to win in major part because the judges favored the musicians so much. It was really disappointing for Abby to not win or even place. She did such a tremendous job. Afterward, a man came up to Abby and told her he couldn't believe that she didn't win. He said she was fabulous and thought she did everything perfect.
It was certainly an honor to perform at the venue. Many of Abby's dance friends and parents came to watch Arianna and her. Several brought flowers and gifts for her. It was really nice of them to be so supportive. Denise and Don came up from near Cincinnati to watch her as did the grandparents. Abby certainly won in our eyes!
