Halloween
After what seemed like a long time for the kids to wait, our cool, rainy Halloween arrived! The rain didn't put too much of a damper on the festivities (maybe that's too easy for me to say since I stayed home and passed out candy) except that the girls' school parade was canceled. I think we had less trick or treaters than normal due to the weather (I guess I didn't need to keep that Halloween candy stash for myself since we ended up not giving away all of the non stashed candy).
Both girls were witches for Halloween. I've always been very anti- witch, ghost, goblin, etc. for Halloween. I've always tried to keep Halloween "light" and not focused on darkness. I mean, I know a kid dressed as a witch isn't a Satan worshiper but why would I want my girl(s) dressed like something that stands for sorcery, dark magic, or heaven forbid Satan himself? Which leads me back to my girl witches. Abby found this adorable, yes adorable, witch costume in a catalog that had a matching American Girl doll witch costume. Perfect! I didn't like the idea but I know that Abby will be over the AG phase soon and if she wanted to have a matching outfit with her doll, then I figured I'd let her. Well, here's what I get for abandoning my principles: Despite ordering Abby's witch and AG witch costume in July, in late September, I received an email from the company stating that there was a problem with the production of the AG witch outfit and they wouldn't be made in time to send out before Halloween. Of course, I'd already received Abby's costume and she liked it, so she became a witch without a matching AG witch outfit. Naturally, what's good for the goose is good for the gander, so guess who else became a witch for Halloween? You guessed it, little sister. The worse part (not the "worst" part- that is that my girls were witches in the first place) is that those costumes were shockingly expensive. I let Alyssa pick out her witch costume without checking the price first. Yikes. I know that I spent more on those two costumes than I've spent combined for all three kids, for all of the years that they've trick or treated. It's what I get, I tell you. It's what I get.
