More basketball
In addition to Alyssa's basketball game on Saturday, we had the following activities: Abby had a three hour dance practice in the afternoon, Jacob had lacrosse training for two hours in the afternoon, followed by a late afternoon basketball game, capped off by an evening indoor soccer game.
Jacob's team lost its basketball game by four points which is not the outcome we wanted; however, we played this team (Centerville) earlier in the season and they killed us 38-16. Since a four point loss is not a drubbing but a 38-16 loss is, the kids were fairly pleased with the "improvement" in the scores. One player for our team wasn't at the game, so Jacob got to play many extra minutes. He scored 10 points (out of our team's 25) and continued to improve his ball handling.
Our schedule was lighter on Sunday: church, Alyssa's indoor soccer training at 3:00 and then Jacob's basketball game at 6:00 (against B-Creek). Could the boys pull out a victory?? Sadly, but not unexpectedly, no. However, they clawed their way out of a fairly decent deficit to make it to overtime. With about five seconds left in overtime and trailing Beavercreek by three points, the boys had to make a three to stay in the game. Jacob is not the team's best outside shooter; nevertheless, he found himself with the ball with a few seconds left and had to take a three. HE MADE IT! I've rarely seen him so excited. I think for a kid who loves sports, making a game winning or even game tying score is about the best thing in the world. Jacob was ecstatic I wish I would have had my camera out and ready to capture the moment, but I really thought that our best outside shooter would take the shot and not Jacob. So I wasn't photographically prepared and hence didn't capture the moment (or the moments afterward when Jacob's excitement was so evident). Shortly after the second overtime commenced, Beavercreek pulled ahead of us and won easily. So, we lost. But, since losing is pretty much what the boys have come to expect, little things like not getting killed (as in the Centerville game) and getting the game into overtime, seem like little victories in and of themselves. Don't get me wrong, Jacob hates being on a losing team. But, there are some silver linings in the clouds!
In the Centerville game on Saturday, our boys held this Centerville big to just four points. He had scored many more in the game in which they killed us. He also almost fouled out AND almost got kicked out for bad language.
Sunday's game...
The opposite of excitement!!
