Christmas Eve
Donnie was home all day for Christmas Eve, something that doesn't happen all that often, especially if Christmas Eve falls during the week like it did this week. Before we left for church around 4:00, we had accomplished quite a bit: pies were made, the kitchen cleaned up (me), baseboards and blinds cleaned (Donnie), the kids' rooms completely cleaned (both of us cajoling the kids to get this task done), and ourselves all cleaned up and ready to leave the house.
The church service was so good, as usual. The theme of our pastor's message was the Light that we can choose to walk in when we follow Jesus or the alternative which is not following Jesus and living in darkness. The pastor emphasized the traits of compassion, empathy and love that followers of Jesus should have. The service concluded with all in attendance (including children ages 5 and up) lighting candles together. I love this tradition as we always had a candlelight service in Christmas Eve services I attended as a child. The pastor cautioned care in handling the candles and told us that one woman in a preceding service had her hair catch on fire! The worst/ best part is that she was ok and that she was the pastor's wife. If the person with the hair on fire had been a first timer or occasional church attender, that probably would have been it church wise for that person! Since it was the pastor's wife, I'm pretty certain she'll make more appearances at church :-).
After church, we went to Donnie's mom's house where we ate tons of good food and opened presents from Scott and her. Christmas Eve truly kicks off the festivities and sets a great mood for the next day!

The girls pose before we headed to church. I like to get pictures of all three of the kids together before we go to church. Jacob, who hasn't napped in the afternoon since he was FOUR, fell asleep on the couch in the basement shortly before we needed to leave. He had to jump in the shower as soon as we roused him and we literally didn't have time to pose for pictures with him. Apparently, a sleepover and an alleged energy pill consumption and subsequent no sleep the night before, left Jacob exhausted. We were, needless to say, less than thrilled to hear about the events and non events (sleep) of the night before.
