Hodgepodge
1. What does freedom mean to you?
Freedom to me means a few things. The most important component of freedom is having the freedom of speech- to be able to criticize the government and/or to freely speak about my Christian faith without fear of reprisal.
Also, freedom means that the government doesn't try to censor speech that is true that it doesn't like. A fairly recent (and egregious) example is when Joe Biden didn't want the media to report on the contents of his son's laptop computer shortly before the 2020 election. Government officials lied about the veracity of the files on the laptop and convinced Big Tech to not repost links with a New York Post article that broke the story to suppress the truth. Not cool!
2. How will you celebrate Independence Day this year? If you live outside the USA answer this question as it relates to your own country's patriotic holiday, wherever that may land on the calendar.
We are going to our friends' house for a cook out. I can't wait! We haven't seen our friends since early June- it will be great to reconnect.
3. This or that...red, white, or blue? Stars or stripes? Watermelon, home made ice cream, or blueberry pie? How do you feel about fireworks?
I'm not sure the context- like in general? I'll say red, stars and blueberry pie.
I like fireworks on the 4th only please (and thank you!). People light fireworks/loud celebratory (I guess?) sounds for about the week before the 4th and a week after. It's annoying.
4. What have you purchased recently that made you excited?
Goodness, I can't think of any really good examples. A couple come to mind though "excited" is a bit of an ambitious adjective to use.
I rarely buy clothes on Amazon but at the last minute, I decided that I wanted a tennis skirt (not for tennis per se, rather the style). I found one on Amazon that could be delivered the next day which was when I needed it. The skirt was super cheap- $11 and there are pockets on the outer edge of the shorts portion of it. The pockets came in super handy when I wore the skirt. The instructions on the skirt say to not machine wash it (yeah, right, I'm not dry cleaning an $11 skirt- I've already washed it in the machine and it's fine).
Also this trellis for the garden has me a little bit excited- I've never had a trellis in the garden. We shall see how it goes...
5. I'm thankful to live in America (or fill in whatever country you call home) because____________.
It is a nation where Christians can freely practice their faith.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
Abby and I arrived home around 2:00 am on Tuesday. I slept all of about four hours and now, 10:30 pm, Tuesday evening, I still don't feel tired. Sometimes my body impresses me!!
It was great to wake up this morning and look out the window and see verdant grass and leaves on trees and colorful blooms on flowers. We were in the desert and saw beautiful topography; however, the flora here in the Midwest has my heart :). It was also wonderful to hear the sound of rain falling. Summer almost always results in a drought at some point but it appears that now is not that time. I will take the rain when it comes. When the rain stopped, I went outside to my two vegetable garden areas to weed.
How I like my garden clogs to look...

I am howling at the garden clogs- you are the cutest! Love your Amazon finds- the outfit looks super cute and comfy and perfect for working out, gardening, etc. I am impressed with the small amount of sleep you needed!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Holly- my sleep needs are so weird. Sometimes I get plenty of sleep at night and then at 2:00 pm I feel like I need a nap. Other times, I get very little sleep at night and feel no sluggishness or fatigue the next day. Strange!
DeleteI love a garden trellis. The skirt is cute. I am with you on the dry cleaning : ) Hope you had a great trip! I love visiting the desert but think I'd get tired of not seeing enough lush green spaces so wouldn't want to live there. Happy 4th!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Joyce- yes, same about the desert. The juxtaposition of the extreme natural beauty vs. the vegetation situation was stark to me. I would miss the beauty of abundant flowers and lush grass. We did have a great trip!
DeleteI am so with you on the fireworks at inappropriate times! I also, and this sounds so mean, hate how people post on social medial about being aware that some dogs are scared of them. That just irritates me!
ReplyDeleteI guess the multi- night firework thing is not just an Ohio phenomenon. I don't understand why people who buy them don't set them off on the 4th. Like, why the 1st and the 9th??
DeleteI like the skirt!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Dara!
DeleteLove this post, this is what patriotism should be, especially the last picture!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jim!
DeleteHave a great 4th of July weekend!
ReplyDeleteAhh! It gets like that in the weeks running up to and after bonfire night here in the UK in November. I don't mind fireworks on the night but before and after, no thank you!
My youngest loves tennis skirts just for the hidden shorts and the pockets. Hers say dry clean and they've been through the washing machine many times. lol
Thanks, Kim! The hidden shorts and pockets are the best! I guess dry clean only is a thing for these types of skirts. No can do! I'm glad your daughter's have held up in the machine.
DeleteHave a Happy 4th. I love the skirt.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I hope you have a Happy 4th as well!
DeleteHappy Birthday America!!!
ReplyDeleteI am excited to hear about your trip. :-) I am like you... I need plants and green. I like dry heat, but oh how I would miss plants and more plants and green and more green. Hee Hee!
Love your garden clogs.
I also like your skirt and trellis.
Thanks, Carla! Oh yes, exactly about the dry heat and missing all the green and green plants.
DeleteI am the same way with cheaper Amazon clothes that say no machine wash; there is no way I am dry cleaning or hand washing anything that cost me less than $20. I'll take the chances that I ruin it and live without if then. Now I don't mind hanging or laying something flat to dry but most things last through the washer and dryer just fine even if they say otherwise.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Joanne- I didn't realize that the skirt was not unique- it sounds like other Amazon skirts say to not wash in a machine. It's silly to expect someone to dry clean that cheap of an item! I didn't even think about not drying the skirt in the dryer; I dried it in the machine and it turned out fine.
DeleteClogs should be cloggy, I'll say. :) Good morning to you. Freedom to worship is such a wonderful blessing. You are so cute in your $11 dollar skirt! You were right about thinking my parents were from Russia. They were both born in Russia but their families, separately, escaped out of Russia in the early 1930's. They settled in villages near Tehran. They met and were married in Tehran and then immigrated to the USA.
ReplyDeleteIt is fascinating that they escaped out of Russia and settled in Tehran. God wanted them in the US, thankfully!
DeleteI loved your thoughts on freedom. We have had a lot of rain here too.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tanya! It looks like we're in for a bit of a dry spell. However, we had so much- I was just outside and the ground is still damp on this hot, sunshiney day so that is good. I'm sure I'll be watering tomorrow but it's nice to not have to today.
DeleteThat skirt is adorable! Have a Happy 4th!
ReplyDeleteThank you! To you as well :).
DeleteI agree to 100 % to your meaning of freedom, we also have freedom of religion, nobody even talks about religion, that's a private thing, I don't know if my neighbor is catholic, protestant etc and religion and politic is strictly separated in all European countries.
ReplyDeleteOnce again getting around to commenting last minute. Uggh! I chuckled at your answer about your body impressing you when you had little sleep. I feel that way sometimes. I'm like, "I've got this". that is how I'm feeling today.
