Pretty Pink Petals
I was a little sad to take down Valentine decorations after VD. The pinks and reds that comprise the majority of the color scheme are so cheery. I thought about how nice it will be to see spring flowers blooming outside though we will have to wait at least six weeks for that. And then I looked around and noticed that my Christmas cactus was still blooming its pretty array of flowers as was my other flowering plant (I don't know its name and my plant identifying app can't identify it). I couldn't help but notice that both of these plants have flowers with the prettiest pink petals on them.
I didn't want to just enjoy the sight in the moment but to be able to enjoy the sight as long as I have my camera and/ or computer.
My Christmas cactus is three, maybe four years old. My mother in law gave it to me as a hostess present one Christmas and I have managed, somehow, to keep it alive (I don't keep it in a spot where I spend a lot of time so the neglect is benign. I don't purposefully keep it away from me- I just needed a spot that gets light for it and the best place is a room that I don't spend a lot of time in).
I'm thankful for the beauty of indoor plants year round but especially in seasons like winter when outdoor flowering plants are not in bloom.
Those are some really pretty blooms! I have a couple of blooms on my 3 Christmas/ Easter cacti but not nearly as many as I usually do and I think that's because we haven't had much sunlight lately with so many dreary cloudy days.
ReplyDeleteThat's cool that you have three! I would like to get a red Christmas cactus. That would festive around the holidays. My cactus bloomed in November- I really don't pay much attention to it. I guess it's been in bloom since then? I was reading that they don't need too much sunlight. In fact, when leaves are red, that is a sign of "sunburn" which some of my leaves have. Surely sunnier days are ahead ;).

DeleteWOW - I am beyond impressed with the beautiful blooms on your houseplants! How does anyone do that? I am so envious. I would be over the moon and so proud of myself if I had a houseplant that survived...much less grew. And bloomed so beautifully!! Love the color of those blooms!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jennifer! You should start with a Christmas cactus. Seriously, the only care required is watering them about once a month. That's it! If I can do it you can ;). I did have to coax the other plant from the brink of death (really, I just needed to repot it as it was floundering in its original pot).
