Feeling Fall

Happy fall, all. 

The weather happened to turn a corner on the first day of fall which was dandy of it. We got up to 89 degrees on Saturday but Wednesday, the first day of fall, was rainy and the temperature stayed in the 50’s. Prior to Wednesday, when I saw the forecast for Wednesday, I looked forward to enjoying the cruddy, cool weather in the confines of my comfy home- maybe light a candle, clean up the house, cook something fallish for dinner.  However, on Monday I was asked to do a multi day sub job for the rest of the week at the school I sub at the most. Turning it down was tempting but I know how desperate the school is for subs; as more pleasant as a cozy day at home sounded than spending the day in school, I felt like I should probably work. So I got to enjoy the first day of fall with my favorite middle school kids, hearing the sound of the rainfall above the din of students' voices and hoping that I could help the students with the majority of their math questions. (Spoiler alert:  I couldn't until I remembered Keep, Change, Flip for dividing fractions).

While I probably won't be home as much during the daytime hours as I would like to be this fall due to working a lot, I can and do enjoy decorating for the season. Much of my décor is Halloween related which ends, of course, before the fall season ends. So technically, I am really decorating for Halloween with a smidgen of generic fall thrown in the mix. I enjoy decorating for the season/ Halloween because Halloween was a day (and time of year leading up to it) that was so much fun for the kids. My kids are too old to trick but even as late as last year, Alyssa asked if I would prepare a Halloween themed dinner. Also, I have dressed up in a costume the last seven or eight years- always the same one- and the kids (the neighborhood kids, not mine, lol) get a kick out of seeing me in my Tootsie Roll costume. I associate the season with good fun and of course, lots of candy. I eschew the darker side of Halloween and concentrate on fall fun activities and on sugar.

The dining room- this is the least Halloween themed room 

Though the table runner does mention the word Halloween, it is subdued. 

 

Café Rineer has just a touch of fall vibes. 

The orange buckets have jack o lantern faces on them but I turned them over to try to make the space more classy 😉. (The turkey mug probably precludes class from this space but it is slightly less garish than the jack o lantern buckets.)

 

This jar will hopefully be filled with zucchini chocolate chip muffins by tonight.
