Super Bowl Sunday

Here’s my definition of a Super Bowl:

Here’s my definition of a Super Pan...

And here’s my definition of a Super Plate:

Thought I would document our Super Bowl Sunday this year- a year that saw records broken and a guy in his forties at the top of his game (how could anyone in one’s forties not root for Tom Brady (besides die had KC fans of course)?)

Like much of the country, Sunday ushered in a cold wave. I slept in until almost 7:00 am, checked the temperature on my watch, and decided to forego my usual Sunday morning outside run. In my youth (speaking of not being in one’s forties...), I ran outside in any temperature. The older I’m getting, the less inclined I am to run in frigid temperatures.

Once everyone was out of bed, we watched our church’s sermon and then Abby and I headed into dance for a solo practice. It was a practice where everyone who will be competing a solo or solos could come to the studio to run their solo(s). It was great to see Abby and her teammates up on stage dancing. Dance competition companies have been sending out information on what competitions will look like this year. They will be different... but that will have to be ok. At least they will be happening!

After we came home, we were home for the rest of the day. We relaxed, made cookies, and enjoyed being home and inside during the cold day. I found a recipe for baked chicken wings to have for dinner. The recipe was a dry rub for the wings and included baking soda which was supposed to help the wings crisp up in the oven.  We could have used the air fryer and gotten crispy non fried wings but it would have taken us hours to make enough batches since our air fryer basket isn’t very big (if our oven goes out soon, we are contemplating buying a range that has an air fryer in it which would allow us to air fry a lot at a time).

Donnie and I really liked the wings. They did indeed turn a tad bit crispy. Donnie had picked up a couple of flavors of wing sauce at Kroger on Saturday so we had dip for the wings. The girls didn’t want any wings. Alyssa is picky about meat with bones with it- namely, she wants nothing to do with it. Wings sounded a lottle too fatty for Abby even though they weren’t deep fried. The girls had leftover shrimp cocktail and Donnie and I had lots of wings :). For dessert we had the cookies that I’d made earlier.

I texted Jacob to make sure he wasn’t going to any Super Spreader events (🥺) and he assured me that he wasn’t.  He said that he and his roommates were going to watch the Super Bowl in their apartment and that was it.

We weren’t necessarily planning on watching the Super Bowl. We’ve watched zero pro football games this year and saw no good reason to start in February. However, we thought about it some more and decided we’d watch to see if Brady could pull off an upset- to make us forty+ year olds look good (or at least feel good that one 40+ person is professionally athletically phenomenal). We (Donnie and I- the girls had no desire to watch it. They both had school work to do) enjoyed watching the game. We turned the game off at half time- that’s how not into the pop scene that we are. We preferred to spend that time doing things we enjoyed. Donnie worked on some guitar/ recording stuff in the basement while I read during half time. We reconvened after half  time and finished watching Tampa Bay win. And that was our Super Bowl Sunday...
