A Two Hour Delay
We had our second two hour delay of the school year on Monday. Still waiting for the elusive snow day to materialize (of course we're mollified by the imminent two week break from school). I guess there's January and February for that. In the meantime, we will take every two hour delay we can get.
The weather forecast for Sunday evening portended the strong probability that we'd have a delay or possibly even a cancellation. A winter weather advisory was issued for precisely the time period that would impact roads. The kids' school issues two hour delays quite liberally. Whether it's because of the large number of students who drive to school or the fact that a portion of the district is rural or who knows what else, if even a small amount of snow accumulates overnight, there's a very good chance that there will be a delay.
This week, we didn't have to wait to Monday morning to hear the news. The school issued a two hour delay Sunday night. Snow was coming down quite nicely when the two hour delay was announced and was expected to continue for the next few hours. Accumulation was projected to top out at three inches. So, we wouldn't wind up with a large storm but with enough snow to make roads less than ideal to drive on. School officials did us a solid by calling the delay before Monday morning. A little before 9:00 pm on Sunday, we found out that we'd have a two hour delay.
Alarm clocks settings and bedtimes were adjusted- for the girls and for me. I had a sub job for Monday so I was impacted by the delay just as the girls were. I got up at my normal early time (I woke up naturally early) but was able to slowly begin the day rather than rush and actually get a few things done around the house before leaving for school.
Donnie left for work before the girls and I did for school and didn't report that the roads were bad. So, not sure whether the delay was necessary; I was grateful for it but also glad that the roads weren't treacherous those who needed to be on roads early.
That's the sweet and simple story of our second delay of the school year.
The forecast was looking good, er bad.
Not great pictures- these were taken from inside the house around 10:00 pm on Sunday.
The snow looked so pretty with the lights from the bushes on it.
