A Christmas Carol- the fall play at SHS
Abby performed in her high school's fall play last weekend (11/30- Dec 2). The play was A Christmas Carol. I loved how it was Christmas themed. The fall play is always performed this time of year but it's not always Christmas themed.
The play called for multiple actors to play the role of Scrooge. I'm not sure if the purpose of a mutli Scrooge A Christmas Carol was symbolic- a la, we all have some Scrooge in us at times or practical- as in one actor portraying Scrooge would be virtually a one man (or woman) show and by having multiple people playing Scrooge, his lines were spread so that several people had the opportunity to play that role. Anyway, Abby was one of them. She had mixed emotions about it but at first but warmed up to it. She was also cast as a narrator and as another part, the wife of Scrooge's nephew. Then less than two weeks before the opening night of the play, someone dropped out of the play and Abby was given the role of person who dropped out. The role consisted of several lines that weren't the easiest to learn- the role was as a "charwoman" and she sold Scrooge's old clothes. I was proud of her that she learned those lines so quickly and did such a good job with them.
The performances were on Friday evening, Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon. They all went well- a few minor glitches but overall everything went well. I enjoyed watching each of them.
I loved seeing Abby on stage doing something other than dancing. Of course I love to watch her dance but it's fun to see her performing in different ways.
I took some pictures at all three of the performances. I was a bit disappointed in how the pictures turned out (picture quality wise not subject wise 😁). Of course I couldn't use flash so I had to make adjustments in the camera settings. Last year, I took pictures at the play and most of the pictures turned out really well. I put the settings that I used in the notes section of my phone (how I thought to do something like that for Future Maria is beyond me but I was thrilled that I had done so). Unfortunately, the lighting on the stage must have been a bit different last year so the settings weren't the best ones. But, by the time I began taking pictures of the play this year, it was too dark in the auditorium for me to see my camera well enough to make changes. Oh well.

Her final role (besides that as one of the narrators that she did throughout the play) was a charwoman. This role had some tricky lines- the syntax of several sentences was different than what people would say today. For instance one of her sets of lines went as follows: "I wish it was a littler heavier one, and it should have been, you may depend upon it, if I could have laid my hands on anything else. Open that bundle, Old Joe, and let me know the value of it. Speak out plain. I'm not afraid to be the first nor afraid for them to see it."
Most of the time, narrators sat in chairs at one end of the stage. But, towards the end, all of the narrators stood to recite their lines.
Curtain call...

After Sunday's show- ach, my camera settings!! I actually thought I moved the setting to "auto" after the lights came on but I didn't turn the dial all the way. So the setting wasn't right even though I remembered to change the setting after the lights come on. I couldn't win for losing with my camera settings. Anyway.... two of our friends/ neighbors came with their kids and the kids posed afterward with Abby.
Friday night- two special ladies came to the show. They were dance moms at Abby's studio. Their daughters graduated from high school last year but the moms came out to support Abby and another girl from her studio who was in the play this year. Julie, hugging Abby here, is super sweet and has always been one of Abby's biggest fans.
Kim (on the left) is Arianna's mom. Arianna and Abby danced for years together and last year, Arianna was a senior in high school and starred in the fall play. Arianna came home from college to see this year's show. I wanted to get a picture of her and Abby but it appears that I did not do so. Abby loved seeing Arianna and receiving support and candy/ flowers from dance moms Kim and Julie

The superstar and me :). She was not the star of the show but she will always shine the brightest in my eyes.
