Nature walks or the day that Alyssa walked 3+ miles with a broken toe
The Saturday after Thanksgiving, Katy, Scott and the girls were still at our house (saying they were "still" at our house makes it sound like I thought they were there too long. That's not the case. I was conveying that they were at our house as a result of being at our house for Thanksgiving.). We had no plans for the day. The guys- Donnie, Scott and Jacob decided to do some "guy stuff" which consisted of buying things at Best Buy and eating wings at Bdubs.
The girls and I decided to take advantage of the mild weather (low 50's, sunny, a little breezy) and spend time outside. We walked the mile to downtown Springboro to get coffee inspired drinks for those who enjoy coffee inspired drinks at Heather's Café. Alas, Heather and her staff had taken the weekend off and so Heather's was closed. We were disappointed, to say the least. We verified that the K was also not open for business before commencing the walk home bereft of caffeine.
Once home, I suggested we go to the McDonald's drive thru so that the girls could get a coffee inspired drink there and then drive to E. Milo Beck park to enjoy the view and go on a walk to the creek. Abby decided to stay at home and work on homework so just Katy's two girls and Alyssa came with Katy and me to the park.
I knew that Katy's girls would love the lookout area and creek and they did. The girls had so much fun there. Katy and I kept exclaiming how great the weather was and what a beautiful day it was to be out in nature.

We love E. Milo Beck Park!! I took this picture almost as soon as we got out of the car after arriving at the park. I think that Alyssa's big smile and Sophie's more reserved one is a result of Alyssa being to E. Milo many times and knowing the fun that was in store. Sophie, at this point, had no reason to believe she was going to have a better time here than, say, playing with Alyssa in our basement.

When we arrived at the creek, the girls headed over to play on this fallen tree. It ended up being a good place for pictures, too.
We only brought two pairs of wellies (because that's all that we have) and the girls took turns wearing them. Alyssa hardly had them on at all and then Ceci and Sophie wore them.
Alyssa asked for my Nikon and began taking pictures. She did a great job! She took the following seven pictures.

When Alyssa asked for my camera, I decided to take pictures of the photographer :)
...and then I took a pictures of two photographers!!
At some point on Friday, Alyssa and her cousins were in the basement playing soccer and Alyssa and one of her cousins collided. Or rather their feet did (they were playing soccer with a soft/ foam type ball). Alyssa told me about it and said that one of her toes hurt. I thought it was probably like a bad stub and that the pain would go away soon. On Saturday, she was still complaining about it. In fact, she could have done without the walk to Heather's but she was a trooper and complained very little (although I did notice she was limping, I thought the pain would go away very quickly. I think my "thought" was more like a "hope" that it would go away quickly). When I suggested going to E. Milo Beck park, Alyssa said that she would go but she didn't want to go on the trail and to the creek because of her toe. I assumed she'd change her mind when we got there, which she did. She was still limping constantly. I'm pretty sure her limp/ pain was what had her more interested in photography than walking around. On Sunday morning before we left for church, I noticed she was still limping. I told Alyssa that I wanted to take a look at it (mom of the year for waiting two days to look at it, I know). I couldn't believe my eyes. One of her toes was red/ purple and the area below it was bruised badly. No wonder poor thing was limping!!
I felt horrible that I'd had her walk so much the day before. I believe her toe was broken. I broke one of my toes about two years ago. I never went to the doctor because I read that there was very little a doctor could/ would do about it. Mine eventually healed but I was in pain for a while (can't remember how long). When the pain/ redness/ bruising of my toe went away, I was thrilled, of course, but had a noticeably bent toe where, before my unfortunate collision with a rock, I possessed all unbent toes. Alyssa's toe didn't look as bad as mine did two days after my accident (I was morbidly fascinated with my toe so I took daily pictures of it. I'm not going to post them here, for obvious reasons) so maybe her toe wasn't broken just badly sprained or maybe because she's smaller it didn't impact her as much? I don't know for sure. But, she took the entire week off last week- no soccer, no gym, no futsal, etc. and she seems to be almost completely healed.
