A soccer tournament, a homecoming dress, and a marathon
We had another busy weekend- by the end of it we had accomplished quite a bit- we had a tournament championship winner in the house, a tournament championship coach in the house, a girl who only tried on one homecoming dress and decided it was the one for her, a marathon finisher (slow, bad time but a finisher nonetheless), and a child whose first debit card purchase arrived in the mail (2K18 for his PS4) and who worked many hours to ensure that future debit card purchases are merely a swipe and a pin number entered away.
Alyssa's soccer team played in a tournament called Fill the Net. It's put on by the soccer club Kolping in Fairfield, OH. It's a pretty low level tournament and her team was not scheduled to do it. But, the tournament needed another team in its girls u12 division so we were able to get in inexpensively. Since her team played in the u12 division, they were playing up a year so that meant it would be a little more challenging for them.
The girls played one game on Friday night, one game on Saturday and two games on Sunday. I missed the Saturday game due to the aforementioned marathon but was able to go to three of the four games. On Friday night, the girls tied their opponent, Kolping 05 Black, 2-2. We were up 2-0 going into the second half. But, Kolping got lucky/ shot two balls from distance that were placed perfectly- above the reach of our goalie yet in the goal. We dominated possession the whole game so it stunk to not win- especially the first game of the tournament. Saturday Donnie and another dad coached the girls. This was not a job that Donnie wanted; girls' playing time/ who starts/ how long the girls play are stats that many parents track with great intensity and don't fail to complain about when the stats don't align with their expectations. The dad coaches and the players did a great job and won 2-0 against FOSC. Sunday morning's game against NKSA was another win at 4-1 and that ensured we were in the final. The final game was against Cincinnati West Black and we beat them easily 7-0. The tournament was the girls' first experience playing 11 v. 11 and they did really well.
After I ran/walked/threw up during the Air Force Marathon, I made my way home where I had the briefest of time to lie down and rest- about 20 minutes or so. I had woken up at 3:00 am so any bit of shut eye, whether it resulted in sleep or not was much appreciated. Abby needed to go homecoming dress shopping. She wanted to go to Dillard's (although don't think I didn't try to talk her into looking at Macy's, a 15ish minute drive vs. Dillard's, a 30ish minute drive). Marathon mom guilt (my marathon experience of the day had kept me out of the house for seven hour or so) gave way to my (selfish) desire to not drive as far so we went to Dillard's. Abby found a dress she wanted right away, tried it on, and we were done! Well, done with the dress part. Finding the perfect shoes to wear with the dress was another matter but we end up finding a very pretty shoe that will look great with her dress. Also, the shoes cost more than her dress so I'm hoping she wears the shoes many more times ;).
Jacob received his favorite video game, the newest 2K NBA game on Friday. When he wasn't working he was playing. He spent time at our house playing and went to a friend's house for a sleepover (videogame over? not sure if much sleep was had) Saturday night.
