Last futsal class (for now...)
Ah futsal, the sport/ activity/ class that Alyssa loves to dislike! Last Tuesday was the last class of the winter session. I took Alyssa to all of the the classes of the winter session because the class started at 5:00 pm and was a half hour+ drive from the house. Donnie would have had to leave work at 3:30 to get home in time to take her so I became a futsal mom (doesn't have quite the same ring to it as soccer mom does it?).
About mid way through the winter session, Alyssa's soccer teammate Chloe started coming to the same futsal class as Alyssa. Like Alyssa, she had been doing a futsal academy program but decided, like Alyssa, that she didn't like it enough to put all the time and effort that an academy program required. Alyssa loved Chloe joining the class. Chloe is such a sweet girl and Alyssa really likes her but, honestly, had the meanest girl whom Alyssa knows started attending the class, Alyssa would have liked it. She really liked knowing someone and always having a partner when the instructor had the kids partner up. The fact that Chloe, a girl whom Alyssa really likes, joined, was that much better. The girls would text each other before each class to plan their outfit to wear. Also, Chloe and her mom almost arrived at the futsal location (Mason Montessori for posterity/ curiosity) before we did but they always stayed in their car until we arrived so that the girls could walk into the building together. Ten year old girl friendships are the best!! Also, Alyssa's birthday this year was on a Tuesday and Alyssa went to the futsal class on her birthday. She told Chloe it was her birthday and at the girls' next Saturday soccer training session, Chloe gave Alyssa some really nice birthday presents.
The focus of the futsal class was footwork. There were no games. However, at last week's session, I suppose because it was the last class of the session, the instructor had the kids play a series of short two on two games. The "goals" were not goals at all but rather two cones. The "field" was a very small playing area. The kids received points if their team won and also if they scored goals, if they shut the other team out, and probably some other way(s) that I'm forgetting. The kids played multiple games and I took some pictures because for several of the games, Alyssa's playing area was right in front of me. How could I resist?? I really enjoyed seeing Alyssa "play" and be competitive even though the stakes were low and the conditions were not anywhere near what game conditions would be. I don't know if it got Alyssa excited about upcoming soccer games, but it got me excited about her upcoming soccer season.
Futsal has improved Alyssa's footwork and Donnie is hoping she'll use some of her skills in soccer games when it's appropriate. There's probably more futsal in Alyssa's future but she won't do the spring session because of spring soccer. Maybe summer or winter again??
She did a lot of defending in the 2 v 2 games but she also took some shots and scored :).
