Every Day Images
Linking up with Kym for Every Day Images and Joanne for Talking About it Tuesday
Nature
The means by which to nourish and sustain us and the power to extinguish life (sorry, but I'm still in a somber mood). These pictures will be about life and not death, though...
I've mentioned before that I have some volunteer tomato plants growing in the garden (though I don't expect anyone to remember the particulars of my garden 😏). These plants are the most prolific ones in the garden by far. I've picked at least 95% of the tomatoes from these plants and not from the ones that I planted. I took pictures and pointed out some here on the blog but about a month ago, I discovered additional tomato plants growing whose seeds I did not plant. These are tucked in the corner where the house meets the side of the house. Obviously one would not plant seeds there! I didn't notice either plant until they'd grown too large to cage but I don't think I could have squeezed back there to cage them and they're too close to the house to cage anyway.
Here is one of the plants further out. The plants look super healthy- no fruit so far (and we're running out of time in the season!)
These are the real stars of the unplanted volunteer plants. The plant in the compost bin is not growing out of it. Rather, I added a wire plant climber to the compost bin (this worked because the bin was filled almost to the top with compost) and tied one of the plants that was growing super high so that it would have a way to continue grow taller.
Books
It's always fun to find a new author to like. I read devoured Daughter of Mine by Megan Miranda recently. As in, I tucked my kindle into my purse on the way to church and when there was a lull in our conversation, I took it out to read.
I really enjoyed the book and immediately downloaded another one of hers. She doesn't write literature but in the suspense/mystery genre, her writing is my style and the reading is enjoyable. D of M was very atmospheric and taut with an engaging plot. So far, I'm not liking the book I'm currently reading of hers nearly as well (I don't care as much for the plot) but I still like the writing style of the author and unless this one is a total dud, I look forward to reading more of hers.
Technology
My phone- My default GPS transportation mode has transmuted to bicycling. I don't think it was anything that I did (it's not a hill I would die on but since I bicycle nowhere I can't imagine that I took any affirmative steps to make this happen). I actually don't mind. It's jarring at first to see the time estimate being so much more than I would have thought. But then I relax when I realize the estimated time is based on biking to the location and not driving.
It's sort of like when you have a dream that you're going up to a podium to speak (scary in and of itself) and you look down and you're only in your undies. Then you remember that you're dreaming (/nightmaring) and that you're not in public in your skivvies. You're so relieved. That same feeling.
Also a weird thing with blogger that's been going on for a few months: I load cell phone photos onto my blog with my iPhone. Whenever I first select pictures for a post, I always get this message now. It will not accept my first try. I hit close and then go back to add photos and it always works on the second time. Because it can take time to select photos and I know the first round is going to be rejected, my work around is to initially choose just one picture- the first one that's displayed on my camera roll (it doesn't matter if I want it or not; blogger will reject it). Then I go back in and select the pictures that I want to upload. So odd!
monochrome
Sort of, kind of, not really (the costume not the whole picture with the red in it!)
Also not monochromatic, but rather quasi bichromatic. I'm using it because I'm a rule breaker I like how close the two colors are and how the background contains both colors and then you have the other two colors in the forefront. The cookies were pecan flour chocolate cookies- eggless to boot and sweetened with maple syrup. Definitely not your typical cookie but a decent bit more healthy.
Evening and/or morning
Evening out on the town, our town's Oktoberfest. A fun night with friends and seeing many people in the community whose lives have intersected with ours however briefly: parents of a child who was in one of the kids' classes for example. Lots of laughter with neighbors and friends of twenty years. It was sehr gut!
...and the following night at the ballpark in Dayton with Donnie's work colleagues for a Dayton Dragons baseball game. Is there anything more quintessential Midwest small city than watching a minor league baseball game on a beautiful summer evening? Donnie has worked at the firm since 1999 and many of the people whom he began work with in 1999 were there at the ball park. A fun evening of a little sports, good fellowship and plenty of complimentary "take me out to the ballgame slightly elevated style" food that we enjoyed immensely.
I love all your pictures with the prompts! This is so fun and I may have to try this one week. Hope you have a good day friend!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Marilyn! You should do the photo prompts as a post :); I noticed we both used baseball pics for Joanne's link up... great minds think alike about pictures!!
DeleteThat is an awkward sign! I like the verb fly in that situation. These are cool posts that really stretch you to come up with you entries! Love that! I really want a nice Oktoberfest to go to. I think there is one at the end of the month!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I didn't think of using the word fly but that makes a lot of sense. I thought it was a bit awkwardly written, too. Thanks- you should do the prompts. You'd come up with good entries!
DeleteThis is so creative- love how you answered the prompts- always love seeing your garden and baking :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Holly!
DeleteFun updates through pictures!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Dara! Some of the info was regurgitated but I tried to do it in a little different way...
DeleteYou have done so well with the tomatoes and how great to have some surprise plants. My tomato plants have came back to life and I am now waiting for them to turn red before I pick them.
ReplyDeleteThose cookies look so good!
Oktoberfest sounds like so much fun and the baseball game too!
That's great about your plants! I hope you get tomatoes. I know you had that one baby one- I hope your tomatoes are growing and you get a tomato or three soon :).
DeleteYou did so well interpreting the prompts!! Those tomatoes are incredible!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Heather!
DeleteI loved seeing all your photos. We're going to a minor league game tonight - always a good time.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tanya! I hope you had a great time- it does seem like they´re always a good time.
DeleteGood job wit the prompts! Good job thinking creatively. And good job offering a more grammatically correct warning. So much better! I cannot believe it is Oktoberfest time already!! And I'm checking for that book at my library. Thanks for the suggestion! Happy Tuesday!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jennifer! May I recommend Daphne Du Maurier´s book Rebecca if you haven´t read that already? The writing is better is why I´m recommending it over the one I mentioned liking (though that one is good, too!)
DeleteLove you and your posts
ReplyDeleteThanks, Regine! You´re so sweet and I love you, too!
